Advice on risk/safety assessment for planning your visit

It is TECHNIQUEST@NEWI’s responsibility to ensure a safe environment for your visit. However, pupils remain the ultimate responsibility of accompanying teachers. We recommend that:

On arrival

- Your coach should arrive at the dedicated schools entrance
- Children will initially be briefed on the coach and reminded of any safety requirements
- Children will be directed in to the science centre by TECHNIQUEST@NEWI staff
- During your visit children are advised:
- Not to run
- Not to leave the building without permission from a teacher
- Not to climb on the exhibits

All areas within TECHNIQUEST@NEWI accessible to pupils/children are:
- Risk assessed in relation to any activities carried out and any materials used
- Designated NON SMOKING areas and fitted with smoke alarms
- Attended by TECHNIQUEST@NEWI staff who will respond to your needs and be alert to any unforeseen problems

Further information
- The use of adjoining fields and facilities is at the discretion of NEWI on the understanding that children with be supervised by accompanying teachers or adults.
- Coach parking is available adjacent to the centre. Arrangements should be made with your coach driver to collect pupils from the schools entrance at your time of departure.
- Please bring to the attention of centre staff any member of your group with electronic prostheses, such as cochlear implants or heart pacemakers.

TECHNIQUEST@NEWI welcomes visits from teachers and group organisers to make their own risk assessments prior to a visit. Please download a copy of our Internal Risk Assessment. This will assist you in panning your visit and evaluating any risks associated with a visit to the centre. Download here.
