Mathcymru and Techniquest have been working together to develop the Maths Challenge Kit, a collection of eleven desktop challenges designed to investigate a range of maths principles. Each exhibit comes with extensive teacher notes highlighting curriculum links, solutions and further problems. Designed for Key Stage 2 students the kits work best with the 7 to 11 year old age group, but can be used to enhance any math course.

All exhibits support the development of mathematical thinking, other key concepts covered include;

Spatial awareness
Symmetry and patterns
Counting
Sequences
Problem definition

Ways that Maths Challenge may work in your school:
The most successful model so far has been for secondary schools to use the kit as part of their own promotional material. Set it up in the school hall and invite the local feeder schools to experience the fun! Several schools have used this to encourage stronger links with the younger age groups with a great deal of success. Planning a parent open day – have the kit on hand to see what your school offers in the way of extra learning activities.
