DOME SHOWS

STARDOME PLANETARIUM

Escape Earth’s atmosphere and gravity without ever leaving your school with StarDome. Pupils will get an astronaut’s-eye-view of the Sun, the Moon and the planets of the solar system and even take a trip into outer space and through a few constellations.
Curriculum links: Forces and motion, The Earth and beyond.

STARDOME PLANETARIUM (KS3)

How did the universe begin and where is it going? How old is it? How are stars formed? Launch your class into space with this inflatable planetarium show to find the answers. Pupils also learn how humans and artificial satellites leave the Earth’s atmosphere and go into orbit, and what life is like in weightless conditions.

COLOURDOME

See how light can be changed, bent, reflected and refracted using lasers, lenses and prisms; find out about opaque and translucent objects. The science of light and colour is explored in this awe-inspiring show.

CELLDOME

Immerse your pupils in an inflatable dome experience. This interactive show gives pupils a micro view on a macro scale. Animal and plant cells and their organelles are presented, including an introduction to specialised cells, their functions and interrelations.

Available from January 2008

The Dome can accommodate up to 30 children plus teachers/adults. The area must be indoors and have sufficient headroom (4.2m) and floor space (7.5m X 7.5m). 240v ac mains power supply is required.
Each show is tailored to the ages and abilities of your pupils. Shows last about thirty minutes including times for questions and discussion. These shows are part of a funded project and a limited number of free shows are available. Please call for details.

CHALLENGE WORKSHOPS

Challenge Workshops are designed to stimulate and motivate pupils as well as provide informal support for teachers in their delivery of the National Curriculum. These workshops offer a dynamic range of challenge activities for pupils.
Challenge Workshops can be adapted to suit pupils’ needs - workshop length is between 30 and 45 minutes.

SHOWS

Exciting and memorable presenter-led shows can be performed in your school or in the classroom with all the props and materials provided. Every show covers a selected area of the Curriculum. The style of each encourages pupils to question ideas, and stimulates interest in science and maths. KS2 shows can be adapted, using different equipment, for KS1 or year 7 pupils on request.
Shows provide an excellent resource for transition phase events.

MATHS

Discover factors, multiples and primes. The show helps pupils work with fractions, percentages and decimals and explores time and relationships, number patterns and sequences.
Curriculum links: Maths.

SCIENCE EXPLORERS

Take part in this game show and follow Asha and Billy on their round-the-world expedition. They will be carrying out scientific investigations related to each country they visit. Each round explores a different aspect of scientific investigation, focusing on predicting, variables and fair testing, graphs and conclusions.
Curriculum links: Scientific enquiry.

LIVING PROCESSES

Investigate life processes, nutrition, digestion, classification and food chains. The show covers animals as well as plants within the framework.
Curriculum links: Life processes and living things.

FORCES

This show explores pushing and pulling forces, friction, measuring and interpreting, gravity, magnetism, spreading forces and levers.
Curriculum links: Physical processes.

FORCES

This show is pitched at year seven as an introduction to forces at KS3, covering many of the same topics as the KS2 show but at a higher level. It focuses on pushing and pulling forces, friction, measuring and interpreting forces, gravity, electromagnetism, pressure, rotational forces and the difference between mass and weight.
Curriculum links: Physical processes.

KITS

Set up a hands-on mini exhibition in your own school.
Kits are collections of engaging and easy-to-use activities that are specially designed to motivate and interest pupils of all abilities. The Kits cover many important areas of the Curriculum and encourage pupils to explore, discover and test.
Each Kit is accompanied by comprehensive pre and post activity materials and teacher support notes which guide you through a host of learning initiatives. The Kits are easy to transport from school to school and we encourage schools to work together to share the resource.
